Thiruvananthapuram: UDF Candidate for Thriuvananthapuram Lok Sabha constituency, Shashi Tharoor, has responded to the question about the sexual harassment allegation against him that happened in 2022.
He said that the allegations against him are not true and it is mere election stunts played against him for bringing his image down.
“Who has brought in these allegations now? Bring proof. I have told this before also that these allegations are not true. No such thing ever happened. There are only 10 more days for election, right? That is why these things have come up now. Produce that lady and prove the allegations are true. I have nothing more to say.”
This allegation against Tharoor was based on a twitter post by Supreme Court lawyer Jai Anant Dehadrai on 28th February, 2024, where he claimed that a victim had approached him to share allegations against senior Congress leader and Thiruvananthapuram MP Shashi Tharoor.
Dehadrai wrote in the post, “THIS is Shashi Tharoor’s reality – sickening and grotesque – this vile man should be in jail. Happy to place this under sealed cover to protect the victim’s identity before any Court in India.”
Dehadrai had also shared purported screenshots of the conversation where the victim claimed that on two separate encounters, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor made her ‘uncomfortable’ with his behaviour. He also shared screenshots of Karan Thapar’s message to him trying to protect Shashi Tharoor.
This tweet of Jai Anant Dehadrai was retweeted by Amit Malviya, National Convener of the IT cell of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
This raises several questions of propriety on Shashi Tharoor, Congress’s ‘poster’ boy, who also ran for the Congress President’s office. He has been under cloud for his wife’s mysterious death, and now this. Victim’s silence is understandable but Tharoor and Thapar must clarify… https://t.co/4leBo0fru4
