Well known teacher and Sanskrit scholar Kurisseri Gopalakrishna Pillai passed away at the age of 91. He was the only one who translated the entire works of Kalidasa into Malayalam. The funeral will be held tonight at 8 o’clock at his residence.
He completed his education at Chavara Panmana Bhattaraka Vilasom Sanskrit School and Royal Sanskrit College, Thiruvananthapuram. Later, he served as a teacher at Thevalakkara Boys High School.
He became active in his career after retiring from work. His famous works are Vaiki Vidarnna Poovu (poetry collection), Hanta Bhagyam Janaanam (translation of Narayaniya), Kalidasa Kairali (translation), Virahi (translation of Meghasandesh), Bhasha Kalidasa Sarvaswam (the complete works of Kalidasa), and Mruchakadikam (translation). He was awarded the EV Award (2013) and the Dhanvanthari Award.
