New Delhi: CoBRAS (Commando Battalion for Resolute Action) will be deployed to combat Pakistani terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir. These highly trained Cobras, skilled in guerrilla warfare, will now take on the terrorists operating in the valley. Terrorists often establish their bases in hill slopes, valleys, and forests. Due to their specialized training, Cobras are well-equipped to navigate the challenging terrain of Kashmir. Notably, the Cobra unit includes 34 female members.
The central government has assigned the specially trained Cobras the mission of eliminating Communist Naxals and Maoists who have been hiding in the forests. They have primarily served in Naxal-affected states such as Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, and Maharashtra for an extended period.
Cobras have been deployed to counter terrorism in Kashmir. Cobra commandos possess the ability to operate independently in jungles and valleys for up to fifteen days, carrying their own provisions for guerrilla warfare. Consequently, they do not rely on external support.
Cobras received their training in Mizoram and are prepared to engage in battlefield operations, including undercover missions. Their unique capability to traverse mountains and hills for extended periods sets them apart. Cobras have achieved a remarkable record, having successfully completed 3293 operations, resulting in the elimination of 359 Maoist terrorists and the capture of 3024 other terrorists.
