The Supreme Court has announced that on the 12th of this month, it will determine the date to commence hearings on the review petition pertaining to the entry of women to Sabarimala. The Chief Justice of India, D.Y. Chandrachud, mentioned today that cases before the Constitution Benches will be listed next week.
The five-judge Constitution Bench is on the verge of concluding hearings on various issues and is preparing to deliver its judgments. Chief Justice Chandrachud further noted that after this, cases assigned to 7 and 9 judge Constitution Benches will also be taken up for hearings shortly.
The Sabarimala women entry case is currently under a 9-judge Constitution Bench. It is anticipated that when various cases come up for consideration on this bench, the women’s entry case will also be included. In a recent development, a case before a 7-member bench was adjourned for judgement after the conclusion of the hearings. Several other petitions are awaiting consideration by this bench. Once the arguments in this matter are finalised, the Supreme Court will proceed with cases before the 9-judge Constitution Bench.
