Nagercoil: The Navratri procession from Padmanabhapuram to Ananthapuri for Akshara Puja is all set to begin on Thursday, marking the beginning of a grand celebration that is deeply rooted in tradition. Preparations for the historic sword handover ceremony and the idol send-off ceremony at the palace have been completed.
The proceedings will start on Wednesday at 10 a.m. when Munnuttinanka Devi, a revered deity, departs from Suchindram temple, making her way towards Padmanabhapuram. On Sunday morning, Kumara Swamy, another integral figure in the procession, will set off from Velimalai Kumara Kovil. Their paths will converge at the Padmanabhapuram Thevaarakketu Saraswathi Devi temple. The sword handover ceremony is scheduled to take place at 7.30 a.m. in the Upparikkal Maligai of the palace.
The sword handover ceremony is a central event in the procession, signifying the commencement of the Navratri celebrations. Following this ceremony, Kumaraswamy and Munnuttinanka Devi, accompanied by Thevarakkettu Saraswati Devi, will proceed to start the Navratri procession, which will make its way to Kuzhithura by nightfall.
On the morning of the 13th, the procession will be greeted with a reception at the Kerala border as it begins its journey from Kuzhithura. The procession will continue its journey, arriving at the Neyyattinkara Sree Krishna Swamy Temple by nightfall and departing the next morning, the 14th, to reach East Fort by night. The Navratri celebrations, which begin on the 15th, will carry on for ten days, culminating on the 24th with the celebration of Vijayadashami, the day of victory.
