Vizhinjam: The first ship of the port loaded with cranes arrived at the Vizhinjam International Seaport in Kerala on Thursday. The huge Chinese vessel, Zhen-Hua 15, embarked on its journey from China in August and made its initial berth at Mundra Port in Gujarat earlier this month. The ship reached the outer waters of Vizhinjam on Wednesday.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and Union Minister of Shipping Sarbananda Sonowal are scheduled to officially receive the ship in a ceremony at the seaport on Sunday. This marks a momentous occasion for the state as the Vizhinjam International Seaport inches closer to operational readiness.
Last month, the Chief Minister, along with top officials, officially named the port Vizhinjam International Seaport, Thiruvananthapuram, unveiling its logo at a function. This project, envisioned by the Kerala government, is poised to become a vital hub for international marine transshipment, significantly enhancing the state’s connectivity to global trade routes.
