Bhopal: Pradeep Jaiswal, an Independent MLA who once held a ministerial post in the previous Kamal Nath-led administration, has officially joined the BJP ahead of the upcoming Madhya Pradesh assembly elections which is set to take place next month.
In 2018, Pradeep Jaiswal was elected as an independent MLA from the Waraseoni constituency in Balaghat district, after his earlier association with the Congress. He assumed the role of minister when the Congress formed a coalition government under Kamal Nath with the support of MLAs from the BSP, SP, and independent factions. This coalition government, however, met its end in March 2020, just 15 months after coming to power.
Pradeep Jaiswal joined the BJP in the presence of Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and the state unit BJP president, VD Sharma, according to a party spokesperson. This development was accompanied by Waraseoni municipal council president Sarita Dangre and her predecessor, Smita Jaiswal, also choosing to affiliate themselves with the ruling party.
The Madhya Pradesh elections are scheduled to be held in a single phase on November 17, encompassing all 230 seats in the state. The counting of votes will take place on December 3.
