Gadchiroli: In Maharashtra’s Gadchiroli district, police have arrested two women on charges of slowly poisoning five members of their own family over a span of 20 days. This crime involved the use of a heavy metal-based chemical mixed into the food and water consumed by the victims, ultimately leading to their deaths.
The victims in this case are identified as Shankar Kumbhare, his wife Vijaya Kumbhare, their son Roshan, their daughter Komal Dahagaokar, and Vijaya’s sister Ananda. Roshan’s wife, Sanghamitra, and Rosa Ramteke, the wife of Shankar’s brother-in-law, were arrested in connection with these crimes.
According to the police investigation, the two accused women bought the poison from Telangana, using it secretly in the food and water consumed by their victims. Their intention was to make the murders appear as natural deaths due to food poisoning.
An official shared that one of the accused women had been reportedly subjected to frequent taunting by her husband and in-laws, fueling her anger. The other woman was trapped in a property dispute with the deceased family members, further adding to the motive behind these acts.
The toxic substance not only claimed the lives of five family members but also left two other individuals and the family’s driver severely ill. Fortunately, the three survivors are now in stable condition following medical treatment, as confirmed by a statement from Gadchiroli’s Superintendent of Police, Neelotpal.
The deaths occurred between September 26 and October 15, initially confusing relatives and the local community. The victims exhibited symptoms including a tingling sensation in their limbs, severe lower back and head pain, blackened lips, and difficulty in speech and swallowing.
