Kozhikode: A complaint has been lodged against CPI (M) area committee member and lawyer, OM Bharadwaj, for alleged loan fraud amounting to lakhs of rupees. The complaint, jointly filed by members of a co-operative society and party workers, accused Bharadwaj, who formerly served as the legal advisor, of cheating the co-operative society after taking a loan. According to the complaint, Bharadwaj is accountable for a sum of Rs 17 lakhs, including both principal and interest.
The secretary of the Calicut City Janatha Welfare Co-Operative Society Limited, situated in Eranhipalam, Kozhikode, recently forwarded a formal complaint against Bharadwaj to both the district and state secretaries of the CPI (M). The complaint emphasises the irregularity of appointing an individual who has a history of misconduct in one cooperative society, as the vice chairman of another cooperative society, which is considered a violation of court orders.
Bharadwaj had obtained a seven lakh rupee loan on March 16, 2016, pledging his property as collateral. Despite attempts to seize the property due to repayment defaults, legal complications have hindered the process. The collateral property for the loan remains subject to bail in the Kozhikode Judicial First Class Magistrate Court, linked to another case. The Tahsildar has issued an order preventing the sale or transfer of the property in question.
