Kochi: Following the Kalamassery bomb blast, the police have intensified security measures across the state. The search efforts began with a heightened search at Palakkad Junction railway station, led by the Railway Police. Dog squads from Kochi and Palakkad have been deployed to assist in these inspections, with passengers subject to thorough checks before being cleared.
Similar intensified checks are being conducted in the state capital, where police personnel have been deployed at major centers. Inspections have commenced at railway stations, airports, Technopark, religious centres, and shopping malls to ensure public safety. Meanwhile, dog squads conducted thorough searches at various tourist sites and parks.
The bomb blast occurred at approximately 9:30 a.m. during a convention of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Kalamassery. The Director General of Police (DGP), S. Darvesh Sahib, confirmed that the explosion resulted from an improvised explosive device (IED) concealed within tiffin boxes, marking a planned attack. The explosion resulted in the death of a woman, with more than 2,500 people in attendance at the convention centre at the time. Of the 25 injured individuals transported to Kalamassery Medical College, six are currently in critical condition.
