Pathanamthitta: Minister for Food, Civil Supplies, Consumer Affairs, and Legal Metrology, GR Anil, announced strict measures to prevent overpricing during the upcoming Sabarimala ‘Mandala Kalam’. The decision was reached during a review meeting held in Kottayam and is aimed at preventing price hikes in ‘Sannidhanam’ and Pamba areas, ensuring a fair and transparent pilgrimage experience for devotees.
The key measures include pre-fixing and displaying the rates of food items in hotels and restaurants, with pricing information provided in five different languages. Also, these displays will prominently exhibit the names and contact numbers of officials from the Food Safety, Legal Metrology, and Food and Public Distribution Departments responsible for the area.
A specialised squad will oversee and take decisive action if there is any attempt to sell stale or substandard goods. In the meeting, there was a discussion regarding the hotel owners’ appeal for an increase in the price of food items. The final decision on this is pending and is scheduled for the meeting on the 30th. Officials from Idukki and Pathanamthitta districts participated in this meeting conducted at the Kottayam Collectorate.
