Thiruvananthapuram: Governor Arif Mohammed Khan criticized the state government over its financial decisions, highlighting the allocation of funds for swimming pools and celebrations while facing a financial crunch. He pointed out that the government is spending exorbitant amounts on unnecessary expenses, yet lacks the necessary funds for essential payments like rations and salaries.
His criticism coincided with a High Court hearing addressing delayed bill payments. The governor stressed the importance of providing evidence in case of a constitutional crisis in the state. He also mentioned the economic strain affecting the Raj Bhavan.
Notably, welfare pension disbursement for agricultural laborers is pending, and uncertainty looms over the salaries of KSRTC employees. This critique arose at a time when the state raised electricity and water bills while spending significant amounts on the Keraleeyam program in the capital. This is in contrast to the government’s claim of an economic crisis in the state.
