Dehradun: Uttarakhand is set to become the first state in the country to implement the Uniform Civil Code. The Ranjana Desai Committee is expected to deliver the draft document to the government next week. Justice Desai proudly announced the completion of the draft for the Act.
Reports suggest that after Diwali, a special session of the Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly will convene to approve the bill. Upon its passage, Uttarakhand will be the pioneering state to enforce the UCC. Following in Uttarakhand’s footsteps, Gujarat is also planning to implement the UCC, aiming to do so before the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The Uniform Civil Code prioritizes gender equality and equal rights for daughters in property matters. The code comes under Article 44 of the Constitution.
