Thrissur: BJP State President K Surendran criticized the state government over the Pooram crisis. He stated that any attempt by the state government to disrupt Thrissur Pooram would be resisted. Surendran made these remarks while speaking to media persons after meeting with the officials of Paramekkavu Devaswom.
“If the talks with the Chief Minister fail, the BJP will go on an open strike. The government that tried to destroy Sabarimala is also trying to destroy Thrissur Pooram. The government is trying to destroy the cultural identity of Kerala itself. People will not stand idly by if they try to eliminate Pooram”, the BJP State President said. K Surendran also warned that the government will have to face public sentiment like it happened at Sabarimala.
Paramekkavu Devaswom Secretary G Rajesh mentioned that preparations are being made to groom the elephants to receive the Prime Minister, and there is hope for a discussion with the Chief Minister in the evening.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to arrive in Thrissur on January 2. He will participate in a women’s conference organized by the BJP and the Mahila Morcha at Vadakkumnathan ground. An estimated two lakh women will gather at Thekkinkadu Maidan for the conference. The Prime Minister’s roadshow is scheduled for January 3. Paramekkavu Devaswom has decided to prepare Pooram during this time.
