Kochi: The High Court will hear the petition of the former government pleader, PG Manu, in the case of raping a survivor, today. The court’s given time limit for Manu to surrender had expired yesterday, leading to the filing of this petition. The request within the petition is for an extension of ten more days to surrender.
Earlier, the High Court had rejected the anticipatory bail petition filed by Manu and directed the accused to surrender. Subsequently, Manu approached the Supreme Court for anticipatory bail. However, Manu’s anticipatory bail plea is not currently on the Supreme Court’s consideration list.
Meanwhile, a special investigation team, led by Puthenkurish DYSP and consisting of six members, including Chottanikkara SHO, has been formed for the case. The accused has been charged under the IT Act. The police had also recorded the complainant’s statement the other day.
The survivor of a molestation case registered in 2018 is the complainant. Manu had visited her house under the pretext of discussing matters related to the case and allegedly tortured the woman. He arrived at the woman’s house in an official vehicle and subsequently threatened her by showing her nude pictures.
