New Delhi: Governor Arif Mohammed Khan, on Friday, snubbed CPI(M) Politburo member Brinda Karat, who had challenged him to contest the upcoming Loksabha election on a BJP ticket. The Governor openly questioned whether the challenger, Brinda Karat, had ever contested in an election.
‘Has she ever contested in an election? I’m not encouraging such things and dismiss the remark with the contempt it deserves,’ said Arif Mohammed Khan.
Meanwhile the Governor denies any rift with the Chief Minister and clarified that he was performing his legal duty. The government had invited him to the Christmas-New Year party, but the Governor asked her to investigate why he did not attend. When the media asked him why he did not attend, he said, “Do you ask questions like this to the others (without referring CM Pinarayi Vijayan)?
With Lok Sabha elections around the corner, Brinda Karat challenged the Governor to contest the elections if he wanted to realize his political strength. The CPI(M) leader also advised that differences with the Chief Minister should be resolved without dishonoring the post of Governor through public statements.
