Thiruvananthapuram: CPI(M) State Secretary M. V. Govindan dismissed the criticism directed at actress Shobhana after she shared the stage with Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the BJP’s women’s conference in Thrissur. Govindan pointed out that it is natural for personalities from the socio-cultural sphere to participate in the Prime Minister’s program and referred to her as ‘Kerala’s public figure’.
“It is up to them to decide whether to attend the meeting convened by the Prime Minister or not. Can it be said that participating as part of Kerala is wrong? At least artists and those from the sports field should not be drawn into the chambers of party politics,” Govindan stated.
“There is no intention to align Shobhana and others with the BJP because of it. Regardless of their political affiliation, arts and sports stars belong to the public domain of Kerala,” he added.
“Celebrities are not appointed as ambassadors based on their political affiliations; their abilities are the criteria. We do not intend to associate an accomplished artist and dancer like Shobhana with the BJP,” Govindan emphasized.
