Kollam: Union Minister V Muraleedharan criticized the Kerala Police for allowing SFI goons to attack Governor Arif Mohammed Khan. The Minister’s condemnation comes in the wake of the SFI’s assault on the Governor’s motorcade in the presence of the police at Nilamel. In response, the Governor initiated a sit-in protest against the SFI attackers in front of a tea shop and vowed to continue his protest until sufficient action is taken against the assailants.
The Minister further asserted that, besides the CPI(M) goons, the entire populace of the state supports the Governor’s stance. “The only individuals who disagree with the Governor’s position are the members of the CPI(M) in Kerala. Even ordinary members of the CPI(M) are experiencing job losses due to the party’s practice of favoring its own members for employment. People, including them, want a governor like this because of his stand against nepotism. When the governor took a stand against nepotism, the leader of the opposition criticized him, citing his affiliation with the I.N.D.I Front. The government enjoys a supportive opposition. It is the responsibility of the Governor to make efforts to eliminate corruption from the administration, a mandate also upheld by the Supreme Court”.
“When the Governor was obstructed on the path and unable to move forward, he came out of his vehicle. Everyone knows how the Chief Minister handled the protesting people. Did you see anything like that here? What we witnessed in Nilamel was the obstruction of the Governor’s path and the intimidation of him with the help of goons. How did the media get there earlier? It is clear that the intelligence wing of the police had prior knowledge of this information. Despite having that knowledge, the Home Department was not prepared to provide the necessary security for the Governor. CM Pinarayi Vijayan is adopting his Kannur style of physically confronting his opponents in Kollam,” Muraleedharan said.
