Ernakulam: The case of Professor TJ Joseph’s hand chopping incident on charges of blasphemy takes a new turn as the statement of  Savad, the main suspect and PFI (Popular Front of India) terrorist, is out. According to the investigation team, Savad revealed that he had spent two years in hiding in Tamil Nadu, specifically in Dindigul.

During this two-year period, Savad concealed himself in estate areas and hilly regions of Tamil Nadu. He disclosed that M K Nassar, arrested and convicted in the same case, was also hiding with him in Dindigul. Savad is identified as the person who used an axe to chop off the teacher’s palm. The investigation team initially traced his movements from Aluva to Bengaluru.

Although there is information suggesting that he has been hiding abroad, the accused did not confirm this during the interrogation. Savad will be taken into NIA custody again. Yesterday (Saturday), Savad’s remand period was extended until February 16.

Savad, a religious extremist and activist of the banned terrorist group Popular Front of India (PFI), was identified as the main accused in the hand-chopping case of Prof. TJ Joseph. He was arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on January 10, 2024 , from Mattannur, Kannur, 13 years after the gruesome incident happened.
