Ernakulam: Sentencing is scheduled for today (Wednesday) in the Mookkannoor, Angamaly massacre case. The verdict pertains to the killing of Shivan, his wife Valsala, and daughter Smitha, who were residents of Mookkannoor. The Ernakulam Additional Sessions Court will make the final decision in this case. The prosecution argued that Babu, the accused in the case, had committed a brutal murder and the accused should be given the death penalty.
The incident in question occurred on February 11, 2018. Babu attacked and killed his brother Shivan and his family. Additionally, Babu inflicted injuries upon Smitha’s twin children, who attempted to intervene in the violence. Following the crime, the accused tried to commit suicide by jumping into the temple pond in Koratty but was apprehended by locals and the police.
According to the police, the motive behind the murder was a property dispute. The accused had also planned to kill another brother’s wife, Sethulakshmi. Although he reached the establishment where Sethulakshmi was working with the intention of committing the murder, the accused ultimately withdrew from the attempt.
