Thiruvananthapuram: Action has been taken against the investigating officer in the case of rape and murder of a six-year-old girl in Vandiperiyar. Inspector TD Sunil Kumar, who was the investigating officer of the case, was suspended citing lapses in the investigation.
The girl’s relatives also demanded action against the investigating officer. Subsequently, an order was issued by ADGP in charge of law and order, suspending the investigating officer. Apart from the suspension, a departmental inquiry has also been ordered against TD Sunilkumar. Currently, Sunil Kumar is the SHO of Vazhakulam, Ernakulam .
The incident in question took place on June 30, 2021, involving the rape and murder of a six-year-old girl in Vandiperiyar’s Churakulam estate. The police arrested Arjun Sundar, a local DYFI activist, in connection with the case. However, he was acquitted by the court after it was found that the prosecution could not prove the charges against him. Subsequently, protests were raised against the investigating officer. Based on this, action was taken against the said officer.
