New Delhi: The Central government has once again issued a notice to state governments, suggesting that the minimum age for admission to first grade should be six years.
14 states and Union Territories have reduced the age limit to six for first-grade admission. However, the position of the Kerala state government is that the central directive cannot be implemented in the coming year.
According to the National Education Policy (NEP), a child must be six years old to be eligible for admission to the first grade. Despite the central government issuing directives to implement this law in March 2021 and February 2023, Kerala has not yet implemented this new procedure.
In response to the lack of implementation, the Central government has once again issued instructions to state governments. The letter also stated that the guidelines should be published after making changes.
