New Delhi: Delhi CM and Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal has been arrested by the ED (Enforcement Directorate) in an alleged Liquor Policy Scam case. The arrest was made after an hour-long interrogation at his official residence on Thursday. The ED has also informed that Kejriwal will be produced in court today and will be remanded in custody. The ED is seeking Kejriwal’s custody on the grounds that he is not cooperating with the investigation and is not appearing for questioning.
Kejriwal was not ready to appear for questioning despite being summoned nine times. He had also approached the Delhi High Court seeking interim protection from arrest and other proceedings, but the court rejected the plea. The arrest followed this. Following the arrest, the AAP staged protests in the national capital.
Meanwhile, today, the Supreme Court will hear the plea filed against the arrest of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in the case. The Supreme Court had earlier rejected the Aam Aadmi Party’s request for an emergency hearing in the case last night and scheduled it for Friday.
According to the case, there has been corruption in the formulation and implementation of the liquor policy during the year 2021-22. It was after VK Saxena took charge as Lt. Governor that the allegation of irregularities in the granting of licenses was ordered to be investigated. After the CBI gave a preliminary report showing that there was irregularity, the case was registered, and the investigation started. AAP leaders Manish Sisodia and Sanjay Singh are in judicial custody in connection with the case. After the incident became controversial, the liquor policy was withdrawn in July last year.
