New Delhi: Reacting to the arrest of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, his former associate Anna Hazare voiced his displeasure on Friday over the involvement of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convenor in formulating liquor policies and said he was arrested because of his own deeds.
“I am very upset that Arvind Kejriwal, who used to work with me, raise his voice against liquor, is now making liquor policies. His arrest is because of his own deeds,” social activist Hazare said in Ahmednagar.
This isn’t the first instance of Hazare speaking out about Kejriwal’s role in the excise policy case. In August 2022, he had written a letter addressing the matter.
Anna Hazare was a prominent figurehead of the anti-corruption movement in 2011, which ultimately paved the way for the emergence of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). Despite refraining from directly engaging in electoral politics, he extended his blessings to the party during its inception. However, over time, Hazare has voiced criticism against the AAP on various fronts. While Anna Hazare has expressed his discontent, Arvind Kejriwal and his party have refrained from engaging in direct confrontations.
