New Delhi: The Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court remanded Telangana BRS leader K Kavitha to judicial custody for 14 days for the ongoing investigation into the Delhi Excise policy scam case. Kavitha, an MLC from Telangana and the daughter of former Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, was arrested in Hyderabad on March 15th by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). She was arrested after a search operation was carried out at her residence in Hyderabad on the same day. On March 21, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal was also arrested in connection with the Delhi liquor scam case.
The Court’s action comes as the ED custody period ended. The ED found that Kavitha conspired with AAP senior leaders Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia to receive benefits regarding the creation and execution of the Delhi Excise policy.
The ED also found that she exchanged Rs 100 crore from ‘South Group’ companies to the AAP leaders in return for these benefits. The ED also revealed that AAP used this Rs 100 crores for campaigning in the Goa elections. The Excise Policy came into effect on November 17, 2021, to transfer liquor sales and transactions, which were under various agencies of the Delhi government, to the private sector. It was after VK Saxena took charge as Lt. Governor of Delhi that cases of irregularities in the granting of licenses to the private sector were ordered to be investigated.
After the CBI submitted a preliminary report showing that there was irregularity, the case was registered, and the investigation started.
