New Delhi: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) clarified in Delhi’s Rose Avenue Court that no Chief Minister is above the law. The ED made this remark during arguments in the Court seeking an extension of the custody period for Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who was arrested in connection with the Liquor Scam case. Additional Solicitor General SV Raju appeared for the ED and sought a 7-day extension of Arvind Kejriwal’s custody period. After the hearing, the Court further remanded Arvind Kejriwal to ED custody until April 1.
The ED informed the court that Arvind Kejriwal was arrested not because he is the National Convener of AAP, but because his role in the corruption case was clear, and the law should be equal for all. The ED added that Arvind Kejriwal is trying to use the privilege of his position as Delhi CM even in court.
The ED also informed the Court that no special favour should be given to him and that there was clear evidence of corruption against Arvind Kejriwal.
The ED added that Arvind Kejriwal is not even ready to cooperate with the investigation; he is not revealing passwords for his digital data for investigation. The ED pointed out that Arvind Kejriwal informed the ED that he can take a decision on this only after discussion with his advocate.
At this stage, the ED also informed the Court that the investigation team has to explore other options to access data.
