Bengaluru: Senior Congress MLA Shamanur Shivashankarappa insulted NDA candidate Gayathri Siddeshwara from the Davangere Lok Sabha constituency in Karnataka. It is reported that Shamanur Shivashankarappa insulted Gayathri Siddeshwara by saying that she only knows how to manage the kitchen.
Shamanur Shivashankarappa made the insulting statement while attending the Congress party meeting held in Davangere. In his statement, he said that the NDA candidate Gayathri Siddeshwara is making all efforts to win in this constituency. But, she only knows how to cook in the kitchen; making a public speech in front of an audience is more difficult than managing a kitchen, Shamanur Shivashankarappa added.
Gayathri Siddeshwara is the wife of sitting MP and former Union Minister GM Siddeshwara.
After the insulting remarks of Shamanur Shivashankarappa sparked controversy, Gayathri Siddeshwara responded to the incident by saying that the 92-year-old senior Congress leader Shamanur Shivashankarappa not only insulted her but also the entire women community who are making efforts to come to the forefront of society.
Gayathri Siddeshwara questioned Shamanur Shivashankarappa regarding his statement, asking, ‘In what field are there no women?’ She emphasized that women have made significant marks in all fields. She added that the Congress party is not aware of how far the women are developed in the country.
Gayathri Siddeshwara reiterated that the Congress leader does not know the pleasure of cooking food and serving family members.
BJP leaders in Karnataka also responded to this by saying that the Congress is repeating its anti-women stance, and the public will understand this from their statements and actions.
BJP spokesperson Malavika Avinash said that a complaint has been filed with the Election Commission against the controversial remark of Shamanur Shivashankarappa against women.
