New Delhi: Former Deputy Prime Minister and senior BJP leader Lal Krishna Advani has been honored with the Bharat Ratna Award. President Murmu paid a visit to the senior BJP leader LK Advani’s residence and conferred him with the country’s highest civilian honor in the presence of Vice President Jagdeep Dhankar and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
LK Advani could not attend the ceremony organized at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Saturday due to ailing health.
“I accept the ‘Bharat Ratna’ with utmost humility and gratitude. It is an honor not only to me as a person but also for ideals and principles that I strove to serve to the best of my ability throughout my life,” said LK Advani while expressing his gratitude to President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for bestowing him with Bharat Ratna.
In February, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had made an announcement in a post on X that Advani would be conferred the Bharat Ratna. The Prime Minister pointed out that Advani’s contribution to Bharat’s development is unforgettable and he is one of the most respected statesmen Bharat has ever seen.
President Droupadi Murmu on Saturday (March 30, 2024) conferred Bharat Ratna on four other eminent personalities too including former Prime Ministers, Chaudhary Charan Singh and PV Narasimha Rao; former Bihar Chief Minister Karpoori Thakur and agronomist MS Swaminathan.
The families of all recipients of the Bharat Ratna award received the honor at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
Former PM Charan Singh’s award was received by his grandson, Jayant Singh, and PV Narasimha Rao’s award was received by his son, PV Prabhakar Rao.
MS Swaminathan’s daughter, Nitya Rao, received the award for her father and Karpoori Thakur’s award was received by his son, Ram Nath Thakur.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP National President JP Nadda were present among other leaders on the occasion at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
