New Delhi: On the 90th anniversary of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), the Prime Minister highlighted the women beneficiaries through the Pradhan Mantri Jan-Dhan Yojana (PMJDY) bank accounts. While addressing the 90th RBI anniversary today, Modi said that 52 crore PMJDY bank accounts have been opened in the country, with 55 percent of them belonging to women. Additionally, Modi stated that more than 7 crore Jan-Dhan bank account holders are farmers and fishermen.
PMJDY was introduced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2014 with the objective of achieving financial inclusion for all by providing basic banking accounts across the country.
Modi recalled that in 2014, during the 80th anniversary of RBI, the downturn of the banking sector in the country was evident. He added that at that time, the situation was so dire that public sector banks could not support the economic development of the country. The public was concerned about the future of the country’s banking system. During that time, his Ministry took it as a challenge and implemented several changes for the development of the banking sector in the country.
PM Modi stated that now, the country’s banking sector has become the strongest banking system in the world. These changes have come about because the policies, intentions, and decisions of the government are correct. He then emphasized that the government’s efforts were sincere and honest in bringing about this growth.
PM Modi mentioned the significant progress in the economic condition of the rural sector of the country. He highlighted the role of the Unified Payment Interface (UPI) in this progress, stating that UPI is accepted globally. Every month, more than Rs 1200 crore transactions are done through UPI.
Modi then highlighted the developments in the tourism sector in the country. Tourists from around the globe are visiting India to explore its culture. He further predicted that Ayodhya will become the world’s popular pilgrimage center in the future.
