New Delhi: The cVIGIL app introduced by the Election Commission of India, to record violations of election rules is becoming a hit among the citizens. Speed and transparency are the foundation of cVIGIL application.

After the announcement of general elections, more than 80,000 complaints have been received in the country so far through this app and 99% of these complaints have been resolved.

More than 58,500 complaints received (73% of total received) were against illegal hoardings, banners and propaganda materials. More than 1400 complaints were received regarding distribution of money, gifts and liquor. About 3% of the complaints were related to vandalism. Of the 535 complaints received of raising firearms and intimidation, 529 have already been resolved. 1000 complaints were reported for campaigning beyond the prohibited period, including using speakers beyond the permitted time.

The cVIGIL application marks a significant leap in election monitoring and reducing ruckus during campaign. In a press conference to announce the 2024 General Elections, Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar had requested the citizens to use this app to be vigilant and report violations of code of conduct and any kind of inducement to voters.

cVIGIL is a user-friendly and easy-to-use application that connects vigilant citizens with District Control Room, Returning Officer and Flying Squad team. By using this application, citizens can report political abuse within minutes without going to the Returning Officer’s office. As soon as the complaint is sent in the cVIGIL application, the complainant will get a unique identification number (UID). Using this UID, the person can know the status of his complaint on their mobile.

The cVIGIL application is one of the collection of applications developed by the commission to leverage technology and provide convenience to voters and political parties.
