Bengaluru: Former Karnataka Chief Minister and JD(S) leader, Kumaraswamy, has decided to quit politics after he lost his chief minister’s chair. His statement comes days after he failed to win the trust vote in Karnataka assembly to the BJP.
While speaking to the media Kumaraswamy also said that politics is not for good people. He told that he was an accidental Chief Minister and he is satisfied with the work he had done.
He told,” “I’m planning to go away from politics. I joined politics accidentally. I was appointed Chief Minister accidentally. God gave me the opportunity to become CM twice. I wasn’t there to satisfy anyone. In 14 months of my tenure, I did good work towards state’s development. I’m satisfied with my work.
“The former Chief Minister added, “I’m observing where today’s politics is going. It’s not for good people, it’s about caste infatuation. Don’t bring in my family. I’m done. Let me live in peace. I don’t have to continue in politics. I did well when I was in power. I want space in people’s heart.”
He was in power for 14 months with the support of Congress but lost the confidence vote when 15 MLAs from Congress and JD(S) resigned from their posts. This had led to a three week long political drama in one of the largest State in the country.
After Kumaraswamy could not muster the required number of MLAs. The no confidence motion could garner only 99 votes in its favour while the BJP led by B. S. Yediyurappa defeated the trust vote with 105 votes.
Yediyurappa was sworn in as Chief Minister of Karnataka on 26 July, bringing to an end weeks of political instability.
Kumaraswamy tried every trick in the book to hang on in power and even made a joke of democracy by continuing in power even when it was evident that he had lost the majority in the House.
