Jammu & Kashmir: Reports are coming in that PDP leader Mehbooba Mufti has been taken into custody and is shifted to a guest house in Srinagar. Both Mufti and National Conference leader Omar Abdullah were under house arrest before the decision to revoke Article 370 was officially announced today in Rajya Sabha.
Mufti was arrested for her tweets which were critical of government’s decision and aimed to foment trouble in the valley. She had been very vocal against any move by the Central government to scrap Article 370. Mufti had been continuously warning the government of uprisings in Kashmir valley if the status quo is changed.
Jammu and Kashmir People’s Conference leaders Sajad Lone and Imran Ansari have also been taken into custody.
The move comes after these Kashmiri leaders strongly opposed the government’s decision. They have the potential to incite violence with the help of their party workers. This could be detrimental to the Central government’s plan to integrate the State fully with the Indian mainland.
