Two SP leaders join BJP praising Modi for abrogating Article 370

New Delhi: In another blow for the Samajwadi Party (SP) and its leader Akhilesh Yadav, two of its leaders who had earlier resigned their Rajya Sabha seats have joined the BJP. Surendra Singh Nagar and Sanjay Seth praised Narendra Modi’s leadership and his decision to scrap Article 370.

Surendra Singh Nagar was a two time Member of Parliament and Sanjay Seth was treasurer of SP. They both joined the BJP in the presence of BJP General Secretary Bhupender Yadav and media head Anil Baluni.

Bhupender Yadv said that both the leaders who joined BJP held significant positions in SP and blamed the Samajwadi Party for not representing its foundational values.

Reports say that BJP might nominate the two former SP leaders to contest the by-polls in Rajya Sabha left vacant by their resignations. With BJP having a strong majority in the Assembly the saffron party is all set to win the Rajya Sabha seats without much opposition.

The BJP has been able to push many Bills through the Rajya Sabha this session. The saffron party has improved its tally in Rajya Sabha and the opposition is weak and disunited in the House. In contrast BJP has stood as a cohesive power pursuing issues that are pro-people in both the Houses.

Even Congress party had to face rebellion from its ranks. Even senior leaders differed from party stand on Article 370 and openly supported the BJP. They realize that blindly opposing Bills that are actually helping the people and contributing to development will not buy them any support with the common people in India.
