Aligarh: Muslim fundamentalists beat up the husband of a BJP Minority Morcha leader because she was working to bring more Muslim women into the fold of BJP. Her husband was beaten up near Delhi Gate in Aligarh.
BJP leader Farheen Mohin has been enrolling Muslim women to join the saffron party and is vocal against the evil practice of Triple Talaq.
She said, “I enroll members under the BJP membership drive. Muslim women have aspirations from Modi ji after the triple talaq Bill was passed. Every Muslim woman wants to join BJP. Many orthodox people in my neighbourhood can’t see their women stepping out of their houses.”
Farheen Mohin said that Muslim fundamentalists want to stop the membership drive. She received death threats from these groups and was ordered to stop her work among Muslim women.
On 8 August, a group of seven to eight people entered the office of Mohammad Mohin, and attacked him. They also warned him about his wife’s activities and ordered that his wife should not speak anything against triple talaq. The attackers also said that they would not allow his wife to work for the BJP.
Additional Superintendent of Police of Aligarh City, Abhishek, said, “A woman named Farheen Mohin has filed a complaint that some people threatened her over her participation in BJP membership drive and used violence. A case has been registered and the required action is being taken.”
Farheen Mohin is a leader of the BJP Minority Morcha in Aligarh.
On 1 August the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Bill, 2019, became the law of the land after President Ram Nath Kovind gave his approval. The law criminalizes instant ‘triple talaq’ used by Muslim men to divorce their wife. This law made the life of Muslim women difficult and were at the mercy of their husbands. The law stipulates three year prison term for those found guilty of using triple talaq for divorce.
