Pakistan snubbed again: Bangladesh supports India’s decision to scrap Article 370

Dhaka: Pakistan’s continuous efforts to internationalize the Kashmir issue is being thwarted from every corner. Today, India’s neighbour and the country with the fourth largest Muslim population in the world, Bangladesh, endorsed India’s action on Kashmir.

A statement by Bangladesh Foreign Ministry read, “Bangladesh maintains that Article 370’s abrogation by Indian Govt. is an internal issue of India.”

The statement added that Bangladesh has always advocated, as a matter of principle, that maintaining regional peace and stability, as well as the development should be a priority for all countries.

Bangladesh’s stand on the issue comes after Indian External Affairs Minister, S. Jayashankar met Bangladeshi Prime Minister, Sheikh Hasina, in Dhaka, yesterday.

Pakistan has lost the international support for its cause in Kashmir. The country was snubbed at the United Nations Security Council, and by world powers like the United States, Russia, and France.

Bangladesh, being a Muslim majority country too chose to stand with India. This breaks Pakistan’s contention that India is terrorizing the Muslims in Kashmir.

Bangladesh is having cordial relations with India and both the countries’ leadership have a strong bond. Bangladesh still owes its gratitude to India for helping the independence movement against Pakistan.

The country is also in the forefront in curbing Muslim fundamentalism. Though, Islam is the major religion of the country, minorities are given freedom to practice their beliefs. However, Muslim hardliners are on the rise in the country which has repeatedly exhibited their violent side by hacking to death their critics.
