New Delhi: The Supreme Court will hear former Union Minister P Chidambaram’s petitions on Friday, filed against the Delhi High Court’s order rejecting his anticipatory bail plea in connection with INX media case probed by CBI and ED.
Justice R Banumathi and Justice AS Bopanna will hear the plea.
Meanwhile, a special CBI court sent Chidambaram to the CBI custody on Thursday till August 26 in the INX media case. The court has however permitted his family members and lawyers to meet Chidambaram for half an hour a day.
Chidambaram was arrested by the CBI from his residence in New Delhi on late Wednesday. The Congress leader was taken to the CBI headquarters after CBI officials scaled the boundary walls of his residence in Jor Bagh after he made a dramatic appearance at the Congress headquarters in New Delhi.
Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, who argued against Chidambaram, had moved an application seeking 5-day custody of the former minister.
Mehta argued that custodial interrogation of the Congress leader was required as the former Finance Minister was “evasive” and “non-cooperative” in the investigation. He also added that the case is a classic example of money laundering and is in the pre-charge sheet stage.
