Paris: France has announced its strong support to India in the Kashmir issue. The French President Emmanuel Macron asserted his country’s stand during a delegation level meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the sidelines of the G7 Summit currently held in France.
Macron said, “Prime Minister Modi told me everything about Kashmir and the current situation in the region. India and Pakistan will have to find a bilateral solution and there shouldn’t be any third-party interference or incitement of violence.”
While stressing that Kashmir is a matter of Indian sovereignty, Emmanuel Macron said that he will pass the message to Pakistani Prime Minister, Imran Khan, that talks on Kashmir should be held at a bilateral level only.
The French support to India on Kashmir is yet another big blow to the diplomatic manoeuvres of Pakistan to gain international support for its cause in Kashmir. However, the European power has openly chose to support India.
The United States which has also given its support to India is closely watching the situation. The US President Donald Trump will meet Modi at the sidelines of G7 Summit. The two are expected to discuss about Kashmir in the meeting.
The United States is calling for calm and restraint in Kashmir. However, Trump had asked Pakistan to stop cross border terrorism, a demand India has been making for many years now.
