Coimbatore: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) is conducting simultaneous raids at different parts of Coimbatore city in Tamil Nadu. Their objective is to track down persons connected with the Islamic State. The raids are centered around houses and apartments with Tamil Nadu police giving strong security cover for the NIA sleuths.
The NIA in the raid at 5 locations in Coimbatore has confiscated Laptops, mobile phones, SIM cards, and pen drives.
There were intelligence inputs that terrorists might strike betwee 28 August and 8 September. The security agencies are on high alert since a report came warning that Lakshar-e-Taiba terrorists had entered Tamil Nadu to attack different locations in the state. The terrorists hit team is said to be composed of one Pakistani individual, Sri Lankans and an Indian citizen.
Following the threat security has been beefed up at tourists spots, religious centers, and embassies of foreign countries. Coastal areas are monitored closely with security increased along the long Tamil Nadu coast.
The security agencies had unraveled modules in Tamil Nadu after intense raids following Easter Day bombings in Sri Lanka.
