Guwahati: The final list of National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Assam was published on Saturday that excluded over 19 lakh people.
Over three crore people have been found eligible for inclusion in the final NRC, Prateek Hajela, the State Coordinator of the NRC, said in an official statement.
“A total of 3,11,21,004 persons are found eligible for inclusion in final NRC leaving out 19,06,657 persons, inclusing those who did not submit their claims,” Hajela said.
The list has segregated Indian citizens living in Assam from those who had illegally entered the state from Bangladesh after 1971.
NRC is a register that contains the name of Indian citizens. It was prepared for the first time in 1951. Now, Assam is updating the register to weed out illegal immigrants.
