Guwahati: Indian Home Minister, Amit Shah, said that the Center government will not scrap Article 371, which grants special provisions to North East, as it abrogated Article 370.
Amit Shah assured the Assamese people that Article 371 is not temporary as Article 370 and thus will not touch it. He said that there is a vast difference between the two.
He was speaking at the 68th plenary session of the North East Council (NEC) in Assam.
The Home Minister said, “After abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir, there were attempts to misinform and misguide the people of North East that Article 371 would also be scrapped by the Centre.”
Shah added, “I have clarified in Parliament that this is not going to happen and I am saying it again today in the presence of eight chief ministers of North East that the Centre will not touch Article 371.”
The NEC was attended by the eight Chief Ministers and Governors of the all the eight North Eastern states of India. He reviewed the security situation and the development of the region.
Amit Shah is on his first official visit to Assam since he began his tenure as the Home Minister of India. He is on a two-day visit to attend the NEC meeting and also to take stock of the situation after the National Register of Citizens was published.
He also gave out a strong message about illegal migration and said that not a single illegal immigrant will stay in India.
