New Delhi: Forging better ties and strong bonds between India and Nepal, a new pipeline will be inaugurated jointly by Narendra Modi and Nepalese Prime Minister, K. P. Sharma Oli via video-conferencing, tomorrow.

The Motihair- Amlekhgunj oil pipeline was first proposed in 1996 but was not active until Narendra Modi’s visit to Kathmandu in 2014. The project became a reality after it with India investing Rs. 3.5 billion.

The Prime Minister’s Office said, “This India-Nepal energy cooperation project, the Motihari-Amlekhgunj pipeline, is a symbol of our close bilateral relations. It will help enhance the energy situation of the region and substantially cut down on transit costs.”

Nepal was dominated by communist influence after the monarchy was overthrown in 2006 and the country came under the influence of China which jeopardized India’s standing in the area.

Since Narendra Modi took power in 2014, India has been engaging actively with its immediate neighbours and his pragmatic foreign policy have increased our relations with Nepal and currently both the countries enjoy a good bonhomie.
