Jammu & Kashmir: The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Srinagar, Shailendra Kumar, has announced that the Block Development Council (BDC) or the three-tier panchayat election in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir will be held on 24 October.
The CEO said that out of a total of 316 blocks of the union territory the election to Tehsil and Zila panchayat election will take place in 310 blocks.
There will be 3300 selected panch and 115 selected sarpanch to the Block Development Council and they will work for the upliftment and development of the Union Territory at the grassroots.
The official notification will come in a few days. The Blocks have been reserved for Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) and also for women.
The abrogation of Article 370 has made it possible for Jammu and Kashmir to take part in the mainstream developmental activities of India. The SC and ST of the state will get their entitled rights as stipulated and the wellbeing of the women can also be taken care of.
