Jammu & Kashmir: A 15-member National Conference (NC) delegation, today, met the party chief Farooq Abdullah and his son Omar Abdullah who are in preventive custody since the abrogation of Article 370.
The security was tightened around the venue before the visit by the party members, who were allowed to meet Farooq Abdullah and his son by Jammu and Kashmir administration yesterday.
After the meeting, the provisional president Devendra Singh Rana said, “”We are happy that they are both well and in high spirits, of course they are pained by the developments in the state. If the political process has to start then mainstream leaders have to be released,”
After the Central government abrogated Article 370, some mainstream political leaders in Kashmir were detained so as to prevent any untoward incidents in the valley and to keep harmony and peace intact. Leaders of NC, Farooq Abdullah and his son Omar Abdullah and the PDP leader Mehbooba Mufti were taken into custody in anticipation that they would wreck the peace of Kashmir.
Mufti had been threatening the government long before that if the article was abrogated then the people of Kashmir would rise against the Indian government. Suck provocative statements would have instigated people to resort to violence had such leaders were not detained.
