New Delhi: The Ministry of Human Resource Development has issued a notification to set up School Nutrition (KItchen) Gardens which aims at achieving the goal of learning a lifelong skill and to shape the behavioural pattern of the students.
The notification states that it is a step in the right direction for school students to engage and participate meaningfully in the activities so as to inculcate the habit of growing own vegetables and fruits in the schools and in their homes.
A guideline has also been issued by the HRD.
The main objectives of School Nutrition (Kitchen) Garden as per the guidelines are, to help in addressing malnutrition and micronutrient deficiencies by consumption of freshly grown vegetables, to give children first-hand experience with nature and gardening, to enhance the knowledge of children regarding nutritional aspects of vegetables and harmful effects of junk food.
