MEA expresses India’s displeasure of Pakistan’s comments on the timing of the Ramjanmabhoomi verdict

New Delhi: The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has objected to Pakistan commenting on the verdict of Supreme Court in Ramjanmabhoomi verdict. The MEA said that the SC verdict is an internal matter of India and said its “pathological compulsion’ of Pakistan to comment on the internal matters of India.

The strong backlash from the MEA comes after Pakistani Foreign Minister, Shah Mahmood Qureshi, said that he was deeply saddened at the insensitivity of the timing of the Ayodhya verdict. He was hinting at the inauguration of the Kartarpur corridor which was held today.

Reacting strongly against Qureshi’s statement the MEA Spokesperson, Raveesh Kumar,  said,  “We reject the unwarranted and gratuitous comments made by Pakistan on the judgement of the Supreme Court of India on a civil matter that is completely internal to India.”

He added, “It pertains to the rule of law and equal respect for all faiths, concepts that are not part of their ethos. So, while Pakistan’s lack of comprehension is not surprising, their pathological compulsion to comment on our internal affairs with the obvious intent of spreading hatred is condemnable.”

The Kartarpur Corridor was opened today for pilgrims from India visiting the shrine of Darbar Sahib, also called Kartarpur Sahib, situated in Pakistan’s Punjab. The corridor connects the Kartarpur Gurudwara with the shrine of Dera Baba Nanak shrine in India.

The corridor was inaugurated to celebrate the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak, the founder of Sikhism.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, inaugurated the corridor, today, by flagging of the pilgrimage of nearly 562 persons.
