Mumbai: The BJP leadership has decided not to form a government in Maharashtra after the Governor invited the party to form the government. BJP came out as the party with the largest number of seats in its kitty in the legislative assembly.
The BJP State President, Chandrakant Patil, said, “The mandate was given to us (BJP-Shiv Sena) to work together. If Shiv Sena wants to disrespect it and form government with Congress- NCP then all our best wishes are with them.”
The BJP team led by Devendra Fadnavis visited the Governor, Bhagat Singh Koshyari, today at the Raj Bhavan. The Governor had yesterday invited Fadnavis to form the government and to prove the majority by Monday. However, it seems the Shiv Sena stuck to its demands and refused to be part of the government.
The Shiv Sena is in discussions with the NCP, the third largest party in the house, to form a government with the support of Congress.
The BJP is the single largest party in the house securing 105 seats in Maharashtra Assembly elections.
