Amritsar: Today marks the 550th birth anniversary of Sikhism founder Guru Nanak Dev and a large number of devotees thronged the Gurdwara Harmandar Sahib or the popularly called Golden Temple.

People were seen offering prayers and taking a holy dip in the ‘sarovar’ to mark the celebration.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Pakistani counterpart Imran Khan inaugurated the Kartarpur Corridor on November 9, which facilitates the visa-free travel of Indian pilgrims to Kartarpur Sahib, the last resting place of Guru Nanak Dev.

Guru Nanak Gurpurab is celebrated by the Sikh community all over the world and is one of the most important festivals in the Sikh calendar. The celebrations are especially colorful in Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh and many more locations like in parts of Pakistan and England.

Night Prayer sessions are also held in some Gurudwaras, which begin around sunset when Rehras(evening prayer) is recited, followed by Kirtan till late at night.
