New Delhi: India will get her 47th Chief Justice of India (CJI), today, as S. A. Bobde, takes oath at the Rashtrapati Bhavan at 9.30. The oath will be administrated by the President of India, Ram Nath Kovind.
S. A. Bobde will hold the office of CJI for 18 months and will retire on 23 April, 2021. Bobde’s name was recommended by the outgoing CJI, Ranjan Gogoi, last month.
The 63 old Bobde was born in Nagpur in 1956 and completed his graduation and law degree from Nagpur University. He became the Senior Advocate by 1998. He comes from a family of lawyers, his father being the Advocate General of Maharashtra.
Bobde was appointed as Additional Judge at the Bombay High Court in 2000. He became the Chief Justice of Madhya Pradesh High Court in 2012 and was elevated as Supreme Court Judge in April 2013. He was part of the five-judge bench which gave the historic Ramjanmabhoomi case.
