Kozhikode: The Grand Mufti of India, Kanthapuram A. P. Aboobacker Musaliyar, said that he does not support women entering Mosques. However, he said that he supports giving review petition against the verdict of the Supreme Court in the Ramjanamabhoomi case.

The Grand Mufti said that the practice of women not entering Mosques has been going on for generations and it is better to leave it like that.

A. P. Aboobacker Musaliyar is known for his strong stand against gender equality. In 2015 he said, “Gender equality is something which is never going to be a reality. It is against Islam, humanity and was intellectually wrong.”

“The obstinacy that boys and girls should study sitting on the same bench is an indirect attack aimed at destroying Islam and its culture. Gender equality is not Islamic, wise or humane.”

On the Ramjanmabhoomi verdict, the Grand Mufti was clearly unhappy about it and wanted to give a review petition against the verdict. He said he supports the All India Muslim Personal Law Board’s decision to give a review petition. The AIMPLB has already said that they would go to any extend to build a Masjid at Ramjanmabhoomi site.

He said that the decision to give a review petition will be taken at the All India Mufti Association, tomorrow.
