New Delhi: The showdown between the government and the agitating students of JNU came to a clash between the police and the students. The protesting students broke the barricade erected by the Delhi police to stop them from reaching the Parliament where the Winter session is going on.
Prohibitory orders have been slapped at JNU campus to prevent further escalation of the situation.
The police lathi charged the students when they broke the barricades erected at the main gate of the JNU campus. The police arrested 54 students those who broke the barricades including the Student Union leader Aishi Ghosh.
Meanwhile, the Central government has appointed a high power committee comprising former Vice Chancellor of UGC to discuss the ongoing issues in the campus with the students. The teachers and the JNU Vice Chancellor have requested the agitating students to end the protests and return to class as the end term examinations are about to begin.
The students are protesting against hike in fees at the hostel.
